Why I Didn't Like "The Aviator"

There are three primary reasons why:
Basically, the casting was horrible.
A tiny mustache or a funny accent/voice does not make you anything like the original.

Thursday's This & That

I was out yesterday with food poisening. Not a pretty sight. Not sure if it was the salmon appetizer or the Buffalo wings. *hic*

Wow, someone is actually listening... I was quoted on the West Wing News Blog for my Janel Moloney sighting. 'Tis a proud moment for the Lounge.

New invention out: you can keep your Viagra securely at hand with the new Viagra Ring. [The Sneeze]

I saw an ER repeat last night and saw Eion Bailey, whom I always confuse with another actor...

Sometimes I get the feeling that these actors are the same person, and they're just getting paid for twice as much work. I mean, what kind of a name is Eion??

Tuesday's This & That

After a weekend of watching darkness and blood (Matrix, Pulp Fiction, Se7en, Resevoir Dogs...) I've been really in the mood for fluffy and mellow stuff. So that means a strict diet this week of Spongebob Squarepants, Futurama, and Esther Williams' movies. It may make me a little more spacey and peachy-keen, so excuse the puppy dogs and rainbows.

Since not all of you are single out there, I've talked my friend Honey into writing up some of her anecdotes about marriage and motherhood. She'll be the Lounge's roving reporter as she delves into suburbia and moments of housewife desperation. Look soon for her recurring feature, which will be called Honey! I'm Home!

I read yesterday that Catherine Deneuve will be honored at a Bangkok Film Festival, and it reminded me of some reading I did on her last month. My friend Bobby says he has a huge crush on her, and he made me look at some of her younger pictures. Since doing so I've thought that if they were going to do her life as a movie (like Hollywood is doing with everyone now), they better cast Gwenyth Paltrow to play her.

What do you think?

In Like Flynn

Maybe something significant should be said, seeing as how this is my first post, but I'm not really sure what to say. It's not like this is a huge red-carpet event where tons of people are going to flock just to hear what the schmeck I have to say, but I guess if this becomes something huge for me I'll look at this first post and think "Why didn't I say something significant? Why didn't I write something so much better?" Oh well, can't live in the future.

Thought I'd put up this side-by-side I made of Sean Flynn and James Franco. With all the biography flicks out, I was thinking of who I'd like to see a movie made for. And Sean Flynn stuck out in my mind. Besides being the son of Errol Flynn, the notorious romeo and swashbuckling hero of Hollywood's silver screen, he had his own unique life as a journalist. He was well-respected in the journalism community, risking his own life and safety to cover the Vietnam war. What I found most interesting was the fact that his death is ultimately a mystery.

In 1970 he went to the Cambodia area to cover the spread of the Vietnam combats and basically just disappeared. It's been presumed that they were captured by some of the North Vietnamese people, the Viet Cong, or the Khmer Rouge. Some reports indicated they may have survived as prisoners for as much as another two months, but Flynn has never definitively been heard from again after April 6, 1970. It's most likely that he was executed by his captors.

If they do make a movie about him, they should definitely cast James Franco. The similarities are stunning.
