Holiday Windup

Sorry I haven't blogged in a while.  The holidays kicked my ass.  Thank goodness my family drinks so I could survive the exhilaration of tons of family and lots of food and booze.  (And thankfully one of my family members gave me this sign as a Christmas present!)  While dry out and get back in to the swing of things, check out these previous posts of holiday seasons past...

Early in to starting the blog back in "ought-5" (2005), I was delighted to find these old holiday ads.

Later that year, my Christmas recap was kind of a downer, due to budget restraints.

In 2007, I was pretty pissed of with the media's portrayal of Christmas.

In 2008, I reflected how horrible the "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" kids' special really is.

Later that same year, I was feeling really nostalgic and introspective, reflecting on Christmas when I was a kid.

I had quite the turnaround this year, as my Christmas and New Years was full of lots of family, food, and cocktails.  I hope all of yours was just as good!

Sketchy Santas

Yeah, I know. It's been an eternity since my last post. A lot has happened. The best part (and the part that you'll actually care about) is that I got a new laptop so I can blog more often now. Aren't you excited?

Anyway, as Christmas is fast approaching, you gotta see the best of the worst Santa pictures. These are men that would never see me on their lap. And that's saying a lot. Enjoy!

(By the way, doesn't the little girl in this picture look like Mara Wilson, the little girl in the 1994 version of "Miracle on 34th Street"?)

For A Father...For Your Family

Even through my hardened exterior, Pixie's heartfelt outpouring of emotion in her post today brought me to tears.

Pixie's father just recently passed away due to pancreatic cancer. Please consider a donation to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network in her father's name.

As Pixie puts it:
The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network is a nationwide network of people dedicated to working together to advance research, support patients and create hope for those affected by pancreatic cancer. Through them, my family and I have set up a fundraising effort in memory of my dad. Please look at both websites and consider making a contribution.

I don't want what happened to our family to happen to yours.

Thursday's This & That

We're ready for Halloween! This is one of our favorite days, and it's approaching fast!! What are you gonna be for Halloween?

Pixie was kind enough to adorn us with a wonderful Kreativ Blogger Award! Thanks, dearie! Now we just have to list 6 Things We Enjoy:

1. Halloween!
2. Drinking a Vodka Collins
3. Confusing Dyno
4. Procrastinating
5. Old movies with happy endings
6. Flirting

So do you think you deserve the Kreativ Blogger Award? How about our very own You're the Shit Award? (See both of these on the bottom right.) Leave a comment directing me to your blog, and I'll check it out! I love exploring new places!

Now stop staring at my gams and comment, dammit!

I've Been Awarded!

I never get an award, an honor, or even as much as a catcall...mostly because, I believe, nobody reads this blog. However, pixie over at The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly has awarded the Lounge with The Diamond Award, because, as she says: "I love reading this blog for frivolous and random entertainment. I also learn a lot about old movies, and it makes me miss living in L.A.!"

Well now I feel bad that I haven't posted in a while.

But nothing comes for free. To fully accept this award, I have to follow these rules:
1.) When you receive a Diamond Award, make a post about it on your blog.
2.) Name the blogger from whom you got it, and attach a link to that blog.
3.) Award the diamonds to seven other bloggers.
4.) Link them.
5.) Tell them that they got an award!

So since I'm a total attention whore, and I want to accept this award, here are some blogs that I'd like to pass this award on to:

1. Bedazzled is always good for finding some random, hidden treasures of the past when it comes to video and music. Imagine it like a walk down kitschy Memory Lane.

2. SorryIGotDrunk is my go-to place for anything alcoholic. Every day I need a little shot in the arm of that frat-type, raunchy humor. And Lou is my inspiration for creating this blog, so he deserves an award for creating my obsession.

3. ComedyJuice is the destination for all things funny: commercials, stand-up comedy, information of where and when to see your favorite comic...this place has it all. And it just makes me giggle every time I see the little fruit.

4. FaLaLaLaLa "preserves the memories of Christmas vinyl past." And since I'm a huge fan of Christmas, I go here for any and all of my nostalgic holiday tunes. I found this blog last year and it was a blessing.

5. And then there's The Sneeze. How do you describe this blog? It's as random as we are. And it makes me laugh every time.

6. Last but not least is A Job in Hell ...the freakiest blog in the world, but also the funniest. As Emma says, she doesn't work for the Devil, she just has to work for him. If you thought your job sucked, you should take a visit to Hell.

Damn, I can't think of one other blog...but can I take my award now?!

Tuesday's This & That

Once again, I'm sick. Why do germs always seem to find me? It's like every month I have a cold. Every time the weather changes, or there's a lot of wind, or someone sneezes, I seem to catch a virus.

So are you gonna vote today? I guess I should. Women sacrificed a lot to allow us to vote. Not to get too political (because I hate the subject), but I don't like any of the candidates. I just can't agree on anything that one guy is saying over another. It's like one guy will stand for something I like, but another guy will stand for something else I like. Especially living in a state as large as California, I barely feel like my one vote counts. But I guess it's my duty as an American. Maybe if I was feeling better I'd be more pumped about it.

I've been watching a lot of old movies again. I cracked open my Esther Williams collection and showed Dyno the magic of "Bathing Beauty" -- my favorite of Esther's. Dyno liked the comedic parts of Red Skelton. I had to tell him the importance of the swimming scenes; how Esther revolutionized synchronized swimming and was a huge success every time she dove in to a pool.

Oh yeah, and I'm probably moving this summer. I've decided to find some new digs...I'm sick of my manager, the apartment's too small, and they raised my rent. The place never had the right amount of drama as the last place. No character.

Well, off to make some more tea with honey and then pretending to work...

Friday's This & That

Well we're still doing a bit of redecorating around here, so pardon the dust. Until we get things straightened up, why don't we take a look around...

Thanks to Matthew for correcting me in the previous post...DVD's of Cinematic Titanic are available NOW! And speaking of Cinematic Titanic, the other half of the former MST3K crew (led by Mike Nelson) has been putting together RiffTrax: downloadable "riffs" that you can synch up with a movie to get that MST3K experience in your own home. Go to their site to see some great examples; there are also a lot on You Tube (just search under "rifftrax").

And for more fun at the expense of movies (or, as Dane Cook calls them "Cinematic Adventures"), go to The Trailer Mash for...well, mash-ups of trailers, obviously.

And lastly, for all those of you who read this blog regularly but haven't yet signed up to be my friend on The Lounge MySpace page...here's a reminder to do so: SIGN UP TO BE A FRIEND OF THE LOUNGE FOR PETESAKE. (Sheesh.) You'll be able to see many more slutty pictures of me and you'll hear some awesome tunes. Can't beat that, right?

Happy Holidays!

...and a very Merry Christmas!
Unfortunately it'll be a busy week...I'm trying to kick @ss with work so that I can take some much needed time off. If anything comes up, though, you'll -- of course -- be the first to know!
