Burger King Under Fire...Again

Burger King needs to fire their ad agency. After a controversial ad that sparked criticism with the Mexican government, Burger King is again under fire with an ad that features Spongebob Squarepants to the tune of Sir Mix-a-Lot's "I Like Big Butts."

If the creepy plastic king dancing with scantily-clad girls doesn't disgust you, I don't know what will. Both BK and Nickelodeon -- who partnered in making the ad -- say the commercial is targeted for adults. Riiiiiiight... It features a cartoon character and speaks of the kids' meals. Not buying it.

Plus, if they're trying to target adults, they lost me. This commercial is not just completely inappropriate, but it's just terrible.

Stupidity Unleashed

Here's yet another commercial that made me cringe in disgust. A young boy is playing "Sonic Unleashed" in a dark room while his mom walks aimlessly in the background. As the moon is revealed through the clouds, the boy inevitably turns in to a werewolf. And if that weren't weird enough, the last shot has him go after the cat. Creepy!

Two Commercials I Hate Right Now

Jack in the Box not only makes men in to big babies, but has a woman pushing the double stroller. I don't know which is more idiotic.
And for some reason, Axe deodorant spray turns a man in to chocolate. And even weirder, women everywhere go ape shit over him. Nightmare Fuel, party of one!

Goodyear's Sexist Commercials from the Past

First: "When There's No Man Around"...apparently a woman is helpless!

...And "when your wife has to drive alone," she suddenly lands in a 70's action film montage. "When a woman's at the wheel"...God help us all.

Got Nightmare Fuel?

With all the great and not-so-great Super Bowl commercials on last night, I thought I'd remember this commercial I absolutely always HATED!! Scares the bejeebus outta me!!

...especially this frame:

Product Contradiction o' the Day

I saw a commercial for this product last night. D-Con No View Rat Traps tout that they allow you not to have to look at a dead rat once it's in the trap. But then they put a picture of a dead rat on the trap itself.
Kinda defeats the purpose, doesn't it?

Why I Hate McDonald's

This could be the creepiest McDonald's commercial ever. Even creepier when you realize that Willard Scott is playing Ronald McDonald.

WTF is with the Fuzzy Brownie??

Is anyone else freaked out about the bizarre new product from Domino's Pizza? The commercial has a life-size plush brownie peddling their new dessert...but -- I'm getting disturbed just describing this -- it's a midget in a fuzzy brown box. And when the mother who answers the door pets the Fuzzy Brownie, she gets brown goo all over her. And then a little girl comes to the door and HUGS the thing and she's covered in brown goo! AAAUGGHHH!! *shudder*

There is nothing -- absolutely nothing -- appetizing about this commercial. What makes the fuzzy brownie fuzzy? Was it left in the refridgerator too long? And why does it expound goo upon being hugged and petted? And why does the fuzzy brownie have legs???

The scariest, eeriest part? Apparently this freaky brown gremlin is named "Fudgems" and you can make him DANCE -- of all things -- on the Domino's website.

We'll file this under: NIGHTMARE FUEL!!!

1971, When Disney Commercials Were Scary

Is this ad supposed to make me want to go to Disney World? Because it's just a bit too freaky.

Someone answer the poor girl already!

Car Commercial King

Weekend Re-cap coming. But I thought I'd share this first. There seems to be only one man to use for your car commercial when you want to show speed, coolness, and masculinity...Here's another commercial using "Bullitt" clips of Steve McQueen.

Absolut Man, Absolut Commercial

The Absolut commercial featuring Steve McQueen is ranked as one of the Best Spots of January 2006. [Marketing y Medios] :
Absolut, which after 25 years veered away from the bottle-centric advertising that made it famous to "salute the icons." In this spot built on archival footage, we see "the Absolute Rock Club," CBGB and "The Absolute Man," the late movie star Steve McQueen. I'm not usually a fan of anthemic spots, but it's nice to see Absolut take bold ownership of its iconic status. And the music, a remix of "Hey Mrs." by I Monster, does appropriate justice to the visuals.
And for more proof that Steve McQueen is the "Absolute Man," check the quintessential car chase from the movie "Bullitt." As the poster says:
This is the one! Described as best car chase ever filmed!
Steve McQueen, check.
Classic Cars, check.
San Francisco Streets, check!
Stunts, nope, this is beyond stunts... see for yourself.

Va-va-voom and Hubba Hubba!

It's Not Easy Being Green

I'm not usually a fan of car commercials, but I am a fan of the Muppets. And Ford has put together a new commercial with Kermit the Frog that you can watch on the internet.

In the commercial, not only does he ride a bike (as he has in his movies), but he kayaks and rockclimbs. Even the little "Making Of" featurette is cute.

Tuesday's This & That

So I took yesterday off because I was a teensy bit hungover from a mad Super Bowl Party I went to. Didn't watch a second of the football game, the commercials, or the Half-time Show, but I caught some of the Puppy Bowl and lost $10 of Captain Kitchen's money playing Texas Hold-em.

Anyway, yesterday I zoned out on the couch trying to recoup and by 10:00 PM I was wide awake, so I caught a bit of ABC's The Bachelor in Paris. Not to be rude, but does this guy have Parkinson's Disease? Because his head trembles more than Michael J. Fox. And who drinks wine out of teacup??

Also thanks to an anonymous commenter, I was able to find the Absolut Vodka commercial I was talking about.

Steve McQueen is just so yummy. Only he can wear a blue turtleneck under a blazer and still look like hot stuff.

Look for another Adventures in Dating soon!

Absolut Man

Former "Va Va Voom" Star of the Day Steve McQueen is featured in a fantastic new Absolut Vodka commercial. The ad campaign is described in this USA Today article.

In the commercial, Absolut names Steve McQueen the "Absolute Man." Couldn't have said it better myself.

If anyone knows where I can find this ad to watch on the net, let me know!
