Errol Flynn
The man who fathered the aforementioned Sean Flynn is the real superstar in the family. I'm in the middle of reading his spicy autobiography My Wicked, Wicked Ways right now, and I must say this man has had quite a life.
This 6'2" self-proclaimed Tasmanian devil of the new-age of sound pictures in Hollywood, Flynn's reputation as a troublemaker and a ladies' man was well-earned. His roles in "Adventures of Robin Hood," "Captain Blood," and "Don Juan" promoted his status as the Hollywood romeo.
He liked all the best things in life: sex, drinking, sex, boating, sex, fighting, and more sex. (When banned from drinking on a film set, Flynn injected oranges with vodka and would eat them during his breaks. Sounds like a great idea to me.) So publicized were his exploits that his off-screen life riveted fans more than his roles on-screen. He was even charged with statutory rape in 1942 but was acquitted, never tarnishing his image. This was when the phrase "in like Flynn" originated.
Flynn found another niche in writing, composing some poetry and prose before his autobiography. He died from a heart attack in 1959 doing what he loved the most: sailing on his yacht.
I especially like his classic good looks, swashbuckling roles in film, and roguish personality. And the gene pool just gets hotter with each generation! (check out Luke Flynn - Errol's grandson.)
